Something for everyone. (5 min. 30 sec.)

IKEA has stores in 29 countries, summing up a total number of 140 stores worldwide. Once the company ventured into the American market, IKEA has appealed to both Americans and Swedes living in the States. When IKEA decided to open up in the San Francisco Bay Area, the excitement among the people in the area was enormous. As we all heard after the great Grand Opening on April 12th, people camped overnight and went out their way to be the first ones to greet IKEA on its first day open to the public. Over the years, IKEA has achieved great success in expanding their business and opening new stores around the world. How the store in Emeryville will do, the future will have to reveal. And as IKEA says itself: "Something for everyone" is the way to relate to IKEA. ies, has declared 2000 as "The Year of Thanksgiving."

Fleetweek (5 min. 30 sec.)

Participation is a method of aiming at an objectified view. Fleet Week is the Bay Area's largest and most exciting annual event. United States Navy ships and any visiting vessels sail under the Golden Gate Bridge in a Parade of Ships. The worldâs best civilian aerobatic pilots, strategic military aircraft and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform beautiful and breathtaking maneuvers overhead to the delight of the over 1,000,000 spectators along the San Francisco waterfront. Many family oriented events and activities take place along the entire waterfront as well. --- In "Fleetweek" we look at, infiltrate and meddle with --though not always criticize the insistent corporization of everything. We are both horrified by and in awe of capitalism's raw power.

Thanksgiving (5 min. 30 sec.)

In many parts of the world a day is set side to give thanks. The date and customs may vary from country to country but the desire to take time to reflect on life's blessings remains the same. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. It is a time for family, food, and football, and marks the unofficial beginning to the winter holiday season. Turkey is the traditional dish for the Thanksgiving feast. In the US, about 280 million turkeys are sold for the Thanksgiving celebrations. There is no official reason or declaration for the use of turkey. They just happened to be the most plentiful meat available at the time of the first Thanksgiving in 1621, starting the tradition.
The UN (United Nations), represented by 185 countries, has declared 2000 as "The Year of Thanksgiving."
